Damp and mould guidance for your home

A comfortable home starts with spotting problems early. If you rent through Rebekah Homes in Swansea, tell us promptly about damp, leaks or recurring mould so the cause can be investigated.

Welsh Government: renting and housing conditions

Spot the signs

Look for recurring condensation, black spots, peeling paint, staining, musty smells or water entering the home. Mould is not always caused by everyday habits: leaks, building defects and poor ventilation can also contribute.

Everyday steps

Use fitted extractor fans and keep permanent vents clear. Cover cooking pans and ventilate when drying clothes. Leave space for air to circulate behind furniture. These steps may help condensation but do not replace necessary repairs.

Report it clearly

Send photos, affected room, date first noticed, whether it changes after rain, any visible leak and whether someone’s health is affected. Keep a record and arrange reasonable access for investigation.

When it is urgent

Water near electrical fittings, a sagging ceiling or immediate danger needs urgent attention. Keep away from the affected area and use emergency services when necessary.
